Job Overview

Reporting to the manager, Fort Hills health and safety, you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the Fort Hills emergency response plan, working with our operating areas to ensure that accountabilities are reviewed, updated, trained and exercised, on a routine basis. You will also be responsible for ensuring that an appropriate emergency operation center (EOC) is maintained; to ensure an effective and efficient emergency response support takes place.

Key Accountabilities

  • Perform the role of incident command system (ICS) process lead during responses
  • Maintain site-wide emergency response plans and provide training for all ICS roles
  • Ensure the Fort Hills EOC is maintained and tested
  • Help in the development, review and implementation of their specific emergency preparedness plans to ensure a consistent approach is maintained across the organization
  • Provide mentorship and support with the development and delivery of various types of mock exercises designed to evaluate existing plans to determine process improvement opportunities
  • Prepare documentation and steward the corrective actions identified during drills, exercises and activations to improve the process
  • Support by developing, maintaining and coordinating all site-wide emergency assembly area and emergency meeting points to ensure consistency and compliance with standards

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Five to seven years of related knowledge and experience working in emergency management roles with a strong understanding of emergency planning and response concepts
  • Completion of ICS 100, 200, 300 level training; instructor level preferred
  • Graduate Diploma; preferably in disaster and emergency management or equivalent is preferred
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products specifically Word and Excel
  • You possess working knowledge and familiarity of relevant standards and codes such as Canadian Standards Association, Occupational Health and Safety and Alberta Energy Regulator is considered essential
  • You demonstrate strong professional judgment in planning and performing assignments
  • Strong communication and organizational effectiveness skills required
  • You constantly ask what could go wrong and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential problems

Working Conditions

  • This is a camp-based position at the Fort Hills site
  • The shift schedule is a four days on/three days off rotation; 10-hour shifts
