Area Manager, Mine Equipment Maintenance, Electrical

LOCATION: Fort Hills, Wood Buffalo, Alberta (CA-AB)

Job Overview

Interested in leading a team at the world class Fort Hills mining project? Reporting to the manager, mine equipment maintenance, you will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and cost efficient maintenance of the site mining equipment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and supervise front line leaders, maintenance coordinators, and contractors
  • Manage and direct all area planning activities, including planned, unplanned, and major maintenance activities
  • Ensure the department complies with environmental, health and safety policies and standards and promote Suncor's Journey to Zero safety culture
  • Collaborate with the mine operations and reliability departments to ensure availability of mine assets and to determine root cause failures
  • Lead and participate in safety audits, inspections and incident investigations
  • Manage usage of support equipment and tooling between the executing maintenance teams
  • Collaborate with supply chain to help administer vendor contracts, ensuring adherence to established price, quality, and delivery schedules
  • Ensure maintenance standards and procedures are reviewed and updated on an ongoing basis to ensure they meet current legislation, codes, and guidelines
  • Ensure all work is planned and that all maintenance activities are executed safely and efficiently within the agreed scope

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Five or more years of supervisory experience in a mining or heavy industrial environment
  • Two years of contractor management experience is preferred
  • Process safety management experience
  • Experience with CAT, Komatsu, Hitachi, and P&H mining equipment is an asset
  • Valid Alberta Journeyman Electrician or Instrumentation Technician Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Electrician or Instrumentation Technician Certificate; attach your Journeyman / Red Seal ticket in order to be considered
  • Applicable mining or maintenance trade certificate or diploma or a degree in engineering
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in the preparation of performance management evaluations, budgets, operational plans, safety reports, and technical reports
  • Knowledge of enterprise software; SAP is preferred
  • Understanding of resource planning and team building
  • You are a strong communicator and are able to develop strong cross-functional and collaborative working relationships
  • You are able to manage conflicting priorities and execute with limited supervision

Working Conditions                       

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • This is a camp-based position at the Fort Hills site
  • The shift schedule is a seven days on/ seven days off rotation
