Reporting to the manager, field services, you will be responsible for providing consistent, reliable and efficient translation of plans into field control and assistance for our operations, planning and engineering groups, as well as maintaining up-to-date mine surfaces and as-builts and volume calculations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Complete all required survey duties with a core focus on safety
  • Transfer mine planning design needs into field layouts to provide accurate guidance for operations personnel to perform the work
  • Assist with maintaining accurate and up-to-date as built records for completed projects
  • Post-processing of survey data for incorporation into site digital data records used by our Mine Planning and other groups
  • Perform volume calculations to resolve cut and fill requirements for mining projects
  • Assist other functional groups on site with survey support

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Prior field work and samples collection (water, soils, biological) experience
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution in a Mining, Civil/Surveying degree, and returning to full-time studies after the work term and some additional education in surveying would be ideal
  • Attach your transcripts with your application in order to be considered; clearly indicate the length of work term for which you are available
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Technical background in surveying, using both conventional and GPS/RTK survey equipment
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or a general mine planning software package (Minescape, Minesight, etc) prior GIS experience is a nice to have
  • Microsoft Office experience, especially Excel and Word
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Validated problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong social skills with the ability to work closely at various levels within the organization
  • You are a highly motivated, self-starter who can work well independently or within a dynamic team environment

Working Conditions

  • This is a 12-month work term, starting September 2018
  • This is a camp-based position at our Fort Hills site
  • The shift is 7 days on, 7 days off

Travel just 90 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, Alberta and you'll find Fort Hills, the largest undeveloped oil sands mining asset in the region with more than 50 years of life expectancy. Fort Hills is being developed in a joint venture between Suncor, Total and Teck Resources, and Suncor is the site operator.

Fort Hills is a camp based work site with brand new lodge-style accommodations for contractors and employees. You'll either fly to and from work or bus-in/bus-out from Fort McMurray. Flexible travel assistance may also be available to get you to and from our hubs if you live in Western Canada.
