Electrical Supervisor (Mobile Equipment Maintenance)

Do you have heavy equipment maintenance and electrical experience and are you interested in leading a team at our world class Fort Hills mining project? Reporting to the manager, mine equipment maintenance, you will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and cost efficient maintenance of our mining equipment. 

You will use your expertise to:

  • Support a team of electricians and contractors and provide maintenance supervisory support in order to sustain daily operations of Fort Hills mining assets
  • Manage and direct all area planning activities, including planned, unplanned, and major maintenance activities
  • Ensure all maintenance work assigned by planning and scheduling is executed in a safe manner and within the agreed scope
  • Ensure unit downtime outage durations are minimized by maximizing the application of resources without compromising worker safety or unit reliability
  • Supervise performance and provide mentorship to direct reports
  • Make sure the department complies with environmental health and safety policies and standards and promote our Suncor Journey to Zero safety culture
  • Set work expectations and performance levels with employees and provide timely and relevant feedback
  • Lead and participate in monthly shift safety meetings, safety audits, inspections and incident investigations
  • Perform the functions within the SAP computerized maintenance system to correctly document, approve and assign the work that is performed on shift
  • Collaborate with the mine operations and reliability departments to ensure availability of mine assets and to determine root cause failures
  • Support the development of work practices and procedures for the Fort Hills mining equipment

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Five years of maintenance experience in mobile equipment (such as heavy haul trucks, auxiliary equipment and shovels)
  • Three years of demonstrated supervisory experience with the ability to deliver on aggressive timelines
  • A valid Alberta Journeyman Electrician Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Certificate or an electrical engineering degree; attach your Journeyman / Red Seal ticket in order to be considered
  • Computer proficiency, specifically in Microsoft Office and SAP
  • A good working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations
  • Strong motivation and initiative, with the drive to collaborate with others, maintain positive relationships across different teams, and make decisions with integrity in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • An adaptive work style with an ability to handle multiple priorities, challenging demands and can function effectively in a dynamic work environment
  • Understanding of resource planning and team building
  • The ability to manage conflicting priorities and to execute with limited supervision
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)  
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Preference for:

  • Experience with CAT, Komatsu, Hitachi, and P&H mining equipment
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our camp-based Fort Hills mining site, located in Alberta’s Athabasca region, 90 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • The shift schedule is a 7 days on /7 days off rotation (7 days on, 7 days off, 7 nights on, 7 days off; 12-hour shifts)
  • This position is safety sensitive
