Fixed Plant Operator, Utilities

Are you interested in joining our Fort Hills utilities team and are you qualified to perform the plant operating duties and responsibilities? Reporting to our shift supervisor, you will operate the equipment in a safe, efficient manner, according to established practices, procedures and guidelines.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Monitor and adjust equipment and process variables to maintain a safe and environmentally-sound operation
  • Learn and adhere to our utilities management systems
  • Work on a crew covering a qualified post within an operating area
  • Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting to maintain our process equipment
  • Monitor the operation and equipment for deviations
  • Participate in and support turnover activities in assigned areas

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Two or more years of utilities plant operating experience in the oil and gas, power plant or pulp and paper industry
  • A 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate (or higher)
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
  • Strong collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups
  • The ability to anticipate potential problems and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions, as well as having a strong sense of accountability
  • A continuous improvement mindset and are able to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, process and hazards in the workplace
  • A zero-tolerance for shortcuts, and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it
  • A proven safety and environmental mindset
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our camp-based Fort Hills mining site, located in Alberta’s Athabasca region, 90 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • The shift schedule is a 7 days on /7 days off rotation (7days on, 7 days off, 7 nights on, 7 nights off; 12 hour shifts) 
  • This position is safety sensitive
