Human Resources Strategic Partner

In this role, you will serve as a trusted advisor to the Fort Hills business unit and will provide advice and apply critical thinking to opportunities impacting Human Resources (HR) disciplines. Day-to-day, a main focus of this role will be to provide HR strategic support to our front line employees and supervisors at the operating level.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Diagnose organizational effectiveness and identify gaps and opportunities that impact business results
  • Work across multiple operations, as well as with the HR Centres of Expertise (COE’s) to support the implementation of the Fort Hills people strategy
  • Focus on strategic issues and activities that flow from the people strategy
  • Lead and steward front line employee procedures and processes (issue resolution, discipline investigations, absenteeism management, etc.)
  • Support culture and talent outcomes in support of strategic objectives
  • Lead HR cycles such as performance management, compensation, career development, workforce planning and succession planning
  • Coach leadership to enable team effectiveness and leadership alignment sessions
  • Facilitate talent pipeline conversations
  • Design and quickly implement solutions that cut across multiple disciplines; even those beyond people and organizational solutions
  • Serve as the HR lead on projects within the business

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Five years of experience as a hands-on Human Resources Business Partner, managing complex labour/employee relations issues in an operating environment
  • Experience leading complex projects and initiatives, including workforce planning, talent management and change management
  • Strong working knowledge and experience in providing leadership with employee and labour relations education, advice and coaching
  • A Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources management or another related field (a focus on organizational effectiveness, change management or labour relations would be considered an asset)
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Preference for:

  • Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation
  • Strong functional knowledge of HR policies, programs and processes
  • Positive relationship management and advising skills to build strong partnerships with client groups and key partners
  • The proven ability to think and act strategically
  • The willingness to take action and you are a highly organized problem solver
  • Adaptability to change and able to work in a fast paced environment
  • Understanding of  complex processes, and motivation to create and implement continuous improvement and creative process enhancements

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our camp-based Fort Hills mining site, located in Alberta’s Athabasca region, 90 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • The shift schedule is a 4 days on / 3 days off rotation
