Learning Coordinator, Shift Equipment

Job Overview

Reporting to the supervisor, mine and tailings operator training, you will be accountable to implement training, and coordinate and qualify equipment trainees using a peer training model in order to develop highly capable equipment operators.

Key Accountabilities

  • Deliver and handle all initial training for operators
  • Assess compliance with the training plans and report on monthly progress
  • Coordinate programs to improve skills and maintain a high level of trainer competency
  • Lead a consistent training experience for mining and tailings equipment operators
  • Thoroughly assess trainees throughout the competency process
  • Complete verification and assessment questions in the environment, health and safety learning unit as part of the assessment team
  • Maintain the mine and coarse tailings career track program for all equipment operators
  • Lead, deliver and maintain the peer training program
  • Evaluate final competency for equipment operators

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Two or more years of experience as a trainer, peer trainer or mentor
  • Five or more years of heavy civil equipment operation experience on haul truck, dozer, loader, excavator, grader
  • Cable and hydraulic shovel experience is an asset
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence with a driving record acceptable to Suncor

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Understanding of industrial environments, energy industry and oil and gas experience
  • Understanding of an enterprise resource planning system, SAP is preferred
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to consistency and quality
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong understanding of business processes and tools
  • You collaborate with others to achieve the best results and deliver the most value

Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • This is a camp-based position at the Fort Hills site
  • The shift schedule is a seven days on/ seven days off rotation (seven days on, seven days off, seven nights on seven nights off; 12-hour shifts)
  • There are some physically demanding aspects of the job such as operating and climbing on and off the equipment
