Maintenance Manager

Job Overview

Reporting to the director, non-process assets, the maintenance manager will be responsible for the safe, reliable and cost effective maintenance of all Fort Hills non-process assets. This includes leading a high performance maintenance organization and contractor base as well as a key facilitation role in managing the cross functional team for effective identification, planning, preparation, and execution of all maintenance related work.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure compliance to Suncor environmental, health and safety policies
  • Operationalize all aspects of Fort Hills safety work for the maintenance organization including processes, tools, audits, inspections, investigations, and stewardship to ensure an active safety culture and leadership
  • Ensure maintenance standards, procedures, and organizational competency are reviewed and updated to meet current legislation, codes and guidelines
  • Facilitate cross functional meetings to screen, evaluate, prioritize, and manage execution of scheduled and break-in maintenance work to the most cost effective and reliable outcome
  • Effective integration with reliability, and electrical and instrumentation to trouble shoot equipment failures, identify root causes, and make necessary repairs
  • Ensure quality predictive and preventative maintenance plans and strategies are in place and executed as required
  • Prepare departmental annual maintenance budget and effectively steward within prescribed target range
  • Prepare and deliver monthly maintenance department stewardship report
  • Work with Supply Chain for vendor strategy execution and effective parts procurement, delivery and warehousing  
  • Oversee performance management of maintenance organization and contractor base

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • A diploma or degree from an accredited post-secondary institution is preferred
  • A journeyman trade certification in a relevant core trade and/or certification as a Facility Management Professional is preferred
  • 10 or more years of  industry related maintenance, operations, and/or commissioning experience
  • 5 to 10 years of progressive building services and contractor management experience
  • Personnel and process safety management and leadership experience
  • Knowledge of Alberta Building Codes

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong solution based, collaborative, results focused leadership style with excellent communication skills
  • Understanding of risk-based decision making and risk management
  • Ability to evaluate, make recommendations and execute to timely resolution
  • Proficient in the preparation and delivery of safety investigations, performance management, budgets, operational plans, and technical reports.
  • Ability to utilize SAP proficiently as a management tool to plan, schedule, prioritize, and steward the overall maintenance program effectively
  • Proven ability to develop and sustain a high performing team
  • Understand complex processes, and strive to develop and implement continuous improvement and creative process enhancements

Working Conditions

  • This is a camp based position at the Fort Hills site
  • The shift schedule is a 4 days on/3 days off rotation
