Production Geologist

Are you a Geologist looking to advance your skills? In this role, you will provide consistent, reliable, and efficient geological technical guidance, supporting a safe and cost effective operation. You will support the mine operations team to execute the short range mine plan in the field through continuous communications and feedback on geological conditions.

 You will use your expertise to:

  • Collaborate with short range planning specialists, mine operations, and other key stakeholders to provide realistic and optimized planning and operations feedback on current geological conditions
  • Provide daily geological technical assistance including daily field monitoring and activities of all aggregate faces, as well as daily reporting of aggregate geological information
  • Provide daily geological technical assistance including daily field monitoring and activities of all ore faces, pit bottom, ore top, recuts, and plant feed, as well as daily reporting of ore and ore top shovel geological information
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to support short range plans by communicating model or geologic deviations from the plan and by adjusting shovel dig locations as required
  • Support monthly and annual production reconciliation by identifying areas of deviation to the model
  • Support monthly and annual aggregate reconciliation
  • Produce operating cross sections and plan maps as part of the mine
  • Complete field investigation programs as required to increase understanding of a particular area’s geologic anomalies
  • Contribute to the safety and health of all employees, contractors, and consultants through the observation of all our environmental health and safety standards

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • At least one year of experience as a Geologist in a mine operational setting
  • A degree in Geology or Earth Sciences
  • Eligibility for membership with APEGA
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Preference for:

  • A high degree of knowledge and competency with geological computer systems, including mine planning geological databases, GIS, and database reporting (experience with Minescape is an asset)
  • Strong administrative and data management skills
  • Collaboration with others in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • Continually seek greater knowledge about the systems, processes and hazards in the workplace, in order to understand not just what you do but why you do it
  • A strong sense of ownership, with demonstrated interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Understanding complex processes, and you strive to develop and implement continuous improvement and creative process enhancements

 Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our camp-based Fort Hills mining site, located in Alberta’s Athabasca region, 90 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • The shift schedule is a 7 days on / 7 days off rotation (7 days on, 7 days off; 12-hour shifts)
