Job Overview

Are you looking for an opportunity to join our Secondary Extraction team in Fort Hills where you will supervise our operations team to safely complete the production plan? Reporting to the secondary extraction, operations manager, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing a team, while providing on-site leadership to achieve the safe and efficient operations of our assets.

 Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the team by establishing clear expectations, reviewing and leading performance, handling shift schedules and ensuring provisions for appropriate training
  • Communicate all issues in a timely manner, identify risk items and define appropriate action plans
  • Track and monitor operational metrics, report any deviation from targets to drive improvements
  • Recruit and develop capable and competent operations personnel
  • Investigate incidents and near misses to figure out root causes and develop corrective action plans
  • Drive a structured approach for upholding all health, safety and environment standards and ensure effective actions and programs are in place
  • Work closely with the operations area manager, planners/coordinators and other supervisors to safely execute plans and meet production goals

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • A minimum of 10 years of refining, petrochemical, extraction and/or mineral processing experience
  • Three to five years of supervisory experience
  • Paraffinic froth treatment or similar industrial experience is strongly desired
  • Trade certificate, diploma or degree in a relevant technical field (e.g. engineering) or equivalent operational experience
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

 Skills and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated expertise and in-depth technical knowledge of operations standards for oil sands materials handling including commissioning, start-up, shut-down and turnaround for plant facilities
  • Understanding of complex technical operating environments, coordinating daily objectives and setting priorities to achieve daily production plan
  • You are dedicated to environmental and health and safety regulations, while leading by example and identifying continuous improvement opportunities
  • You are a self-starter with the ability to work within timelines and exhibit strong judgment, analytical and decision-making skills for complex operational issues
  • You demonstrate excellent supervisory experience with strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills

 Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • This is a camp-based position at the Fort Hills site
  • The shift schedule is a 7 days on / 7days off rotation
  • Additional hours are required for turnaround and outages or as the plant operational needs may dictate
