Supervisor, Autonomous Haulage System

Job Overview

Reporting to the manager of autonomous haulage system (AHS) implementation, you will be responsible for supporting the deployment planning and field execution of Suncor’s autonomous haulage program at our Fort Hills mining site. As deployments progress, you will support the mine operations management team in the reliable delivery of our safety, sustainability, production and people development goals.

Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with AHS implementation team peers to develop and execute integrated plans for a successful AHS deployment
  • Support the development of AHS focused management tools and procedures to best set the operation up for success
  • Manage and provide mentorship to a multi-skilled workforce of up to 20 people
  • Ensure compliance with all work place rules, procedures and occupational health and safety (OH&S) codes
  • Perform daily safety, productivity and competency audits
  • Follow daily priorities to meet the required dig locations for the shovel fleet as outlined in the weekly plan and sustain improvement initiatives
  • Monitor shovel pits, haul roads and placement areas to properly allocate resources
  • Supervise the work required for bulk excavations, dyke construction and ore delivery
  • Work closely with shift trainers to ensure skill sets and training requirements are being met
  • Craft, and verify the proper completion of, work assignments and investigate incidents and near misses with a view toward positive action through mentoring, training or equipment setup
  • Support mine operations technical support groups (mine planning, survey, geotechnical, geology) as needed

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • 10 or more years of heavy equipment operating experience, with at least three of those years in a leadership role (superintendent/supervisory) is essential
  • Previous experience working in a start-up mining operation or new technology deployment is an asset
  • Mining engineers with practical field experience as a front line leader will also be considered
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong working knowledge of OH&S regulations and an understanding of loss management techniques
  • Knowledge of mining dispatch systems and support applications would be an asset
  • Proven ability to make sounds decisions in the best interest of company goals and you look for continuous improvement opportunities
  • Exceptionally effective leadership skills with the ability to engage and inspire front line employees in a positive manner; you hold yourself and others accountable to always ”do the right thing,” and expect others to do the same
  • You collaborate with diverse groups in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value

Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • This is a camp-based position at the Fort Hills site, however periodic travel to Calgary will be initially required to support planning activities
  • The shift schedule is a seven days on/seven days off rotation (seven days on, seven days off, seven nights on, number nights off; 12-hour shifts)
