Team Leader, Wireless Network Mine Systems

Job Overview

Do you have leadership experience with optimizing and managing critical wireless technology? Are you someone who can drive alignment among business partners and provide leadership and mentoring when it comes to operational requirements? We have the perfect opportunity for you! Working closely with the manager of industrial operations, you will be responsible for providing leadership and direction of the control system to our information technology industrial operations, mine engineering, mine operations and other partners.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide functional leadership, mentorship and guidance to a team that is responsible for the management of Suncor’s network assets and technologies in order to meet and exceed information technology, operations and mine operational targets
  • Monitor and manage critical wireless network infrastructure to meet or exceed operational requirements, while ensuring technical security standards and policies are implemented on the network
  • Contribute to the strategic direction and implementation of continuous improvement while maintaining relationships with key business and technology partners
  • Coordinate, execute and analyze radio frequency surveys, providing key input into wireless geographic coverage for mine plants as they alter and grow during expansion, validate the link performance, quality and reliability
  • Configure, install, test and solve problems with wired and wireless infrastructure such as switches, controllers, access points and microwave links for day to day operational requirements

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Seven years of experience in network infrastructure and operations; on-site oil and gas industry and industrial environment experience is a strong asset
  • At least three years as a direct leader, with experience collaborating with other operations functions and processes such as application operations, software development and project delivery
  • Five years in enterprise-level network including: IEEE 802.1, WAN/LAN, optimization, load balancing, routing, switching, QOS, TCP/IP and IaaS, P2P and P2MP wireless equipment with hands on experience administering wireless access points and controllers
  • Five years of experience in supporting corporate or industrial wireless networks in layer 1, layer 2 and layer 3 networks
  • CCNP and CWNA certification is required; preference for CCENT, CCNA, or CWENT certification, and a computer science degree or technical college diploma

Skills and Knowledge:

  • You bring a strong technology and continuous improvement mindset, combined with operational knowledge of industrial on-site environments
  • You are an expert in enterprise-level wireless networks with specific knowledge in Wi-Fi, satellite, and microwave technologies
  • You have strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with a variety of dynamic, highly-focused and geographically-dispersed teams
  • You thrive in an environment where you can develop and mentor high performing teams

Working Conditions

  • This is a camp-based position at the Fort Hills site
  • Your shift schedule will be four days on/  three days off
  • Occasional travel to the Calgary head office will be required
