Job Overview

Looking for an opportunity to get a broad view of the oil sands business and investment management? Do you love analyzing data and translating it into information? Reporting to the Manager, Portfolio Planning and Analysis, you will provide support and analysis and work closely with business partners to support alignment, manage and communicate risks, and coordinate efforts across the Oil Sands investment project portfolio.

Key Accountabilities

  • Work with development leads to ensure the consistent application of portfolio management and portfolio data (reason for investment, risk, economics, etc.) across Suncor
  • Plan and support key initiatives aimed at improving the consistency and clarity of the Oil Sands investment portfolio
  • Provide detailed analysis of the overall portfolio to understand trends, risks and actions required to minimize portfolio risk
  • Support other Planning and Analysis accountabilities including budget and business planning, portfolio check, database support and maintenance and regular stewardship activities
  • Work with Finance to compile monthly and quarterly project stewardship analysis and presentation materials for communication to Oil Sands leadership and throughout Suncor
  • Prepare the weekly Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) summary reports for senior leaders
  • Prepare biweekly materials for portfolio check pre-reads, ensuring accuracy and completeness of information; develop and communicate any administrative revisions, document actions and decisions and support the finalization of information in advance of the AFE launch
     

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Five or more years of relevant experience in the Oil Sands industry, working with Finance, Project Controls and/or Strategy
  • Experience and understanding of project risks, Suncor’s Asset Development and Execution Model (ADEM) process and the development/execution functions would be beneficial
  • Business or technical degree or diploma

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Fundamental knowledge of the Oil Sands business and risk identification
  • You have strong numerical and analytical skills, written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail
  • You have a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with diverse groups, and drive positive outcomes out of conflicting opinions and decision-making processes
  • Ability to influence others and generate results in areas where you are not directly accountable
  • You hold others accountable, and expect others to do the same
  • Ability to successfully work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • SAP proficiency is preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint)
     

Working Conditions

  • You will work out of either our Calgary or Fort McMurray, Alberta office
