Automation and Control Engineer

LOCATION: Fort McMurray, Alberta (CA-AB)

As our automation and control engineer you will have exciting great opportunity to be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance and integration of the Plant Fire and Gas Detection system, Smart Building Automation systems and other Automation system integration with plant Distributed Control systems.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Ensure building automation control and safety systems site acceptance tests (SATs) are executed as planned
  • Lead the execution for the area safety system loops and perform function checks for safe, reliable plant start-up; perform loop and function checks as required
  • Ensure that test plans and procedures are implemented correctly and testing meets all procedural requirements
  • Participate in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities
  • Collaborate with operations, reliability and maintenance to improve production by ensuring 24x7 asset availability
  • Fix control system configuration problems and download the configuration changes
  • Examine plant nuisance trips, configuration issues and strong communication when recommending solutions
  • Work with various disciplines to put a plan in place for improvements and understand the performance indicators/metrics
  • Handle control system maintenance, and implement backup and disaster recovery plans; complete system upgrades

We’d like to review your application if you have…

  • 10 years of control systems experience
  • Experience with configuration, commissioning, operations and maintenance of Honeywell/Siemens Building Automation Systems
  • Configuration and maintenance experience with Honeywell Fire and Gas Detection systems and control system networking experience
  • A Bachelor of Electrical Engineering
  • A Professional Engineer Designation and registered with APEGA
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Preference for:

  • Exceptional technical knowledge and hands-on maintenance experience
  • Deep understanding of regulatory and discrete controls, including motor control, valve control and other regulatory controls
  • Strong technical knowledge of applicable automation industry standards, SIL assessment and LOPA methodologies, and alarm management guidelines
  • Best-in-class skills in designing and maintaining communications between various control systems using industrial communication protocols like OPC and MODBUS is an asset
  • Strong communication skills to engage our main automation contractor, EPCs, vendors and project teams, in a multi-discipline work environment
  • Initiative, and strong analytical and organizational skills

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
