Reporting to the manager Reliability Transmission and Distribution (T&D), you will support the reliability engineering team on the initiatives related to power system management for high voltage electrical equipment in the T&D jurisdiction, at our base plant site.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Ensure compliance to all relevant Suncor policies and standards including the management of change (MOC) process and maintenance business processes
  • Support to Sr. Engineers with data gathering and compilation for technical analysis related to HV Electrical equipment reliability
  • Support the assessment of high voltage (HV) equipment testing and maintenance results (apparatus and relays)
  • Assist with technical issues related to equipment maintenance work.
  • Support Sr. Engineers in the development of scopes for maintenance work and resolution of reliability issues
  • Support our reliability improvement plan and processes and reinforce a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration
  • Support equipment/system failure analysis, identification of root causes and mitigation measures
  • Support the tracking of relevant KPIs in the electrical system
  • Support the analysis of potential risks in the T&D System and the development of problem definition documents to initiate projects

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Current enrolment in a formal co-op in Electrical Engineering at an accredited post-secondary institution, and returning to full-time studies after the work term

Preference for:

  • Previous experience with power electrical systems in the oil or utilities industries will be an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP
  • Knowledge on high voltage electrical equipment; power transformers, breakers, bus bar systems, instrument transformers, power cables, disconnect switches, electrical substations
  • Knowledge on power system analysis and studies (Load flow/short circuit)

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • This is a 12-month coop work term beginning in September 2021 until August 2022
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory.
