Electrical and Instrumentation Technician

Job Overview

Are you passionate about safety, building positive relationships, working within a strong team environment, mechanically and electrically savvy and highly motivated, then we have the role for you. Reporting to the supervisor, pipeline maintenance support, you will be responsible for the coordination and completion of predictive and preventative maintenance programs and repairs ensuring safe, reliable and environmentally sound operation.

Key Accountabilities

  • Active participant in Suncor’s journey to zero safety initiative
  • Execute preventative maintenance programs safely, efficiently and effectively
  • Install, calibrate and maintain: pressure and temperature sensors, fire and gas detection systems, flow switches, transmitters and other monitoring equipment
  • Inspect, maintain and calibrate a wide variety of pipeline equipment including variable frequency drive’s (VFD’s), pumps, motors, flow computers, electrical heat trace, coriolis meters and other related equipment
  • Service pipeline facility motor actuated valves
  • Work collaboratively within a diverse groups in a demonstrably efficient and flexible manner, while communicating effectively with others
  • Oversee contractors and crews performing related repair and installation work
  • Complete reports and other required documentation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Attend safety and operational meetings as well as participate in oil spill and emergency response exercises
  • General housekeeping of all facilities and related equipment

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Minimum five years' post journeyperson maintenance experience with your completion of a registered apprenticeship program, with journeyperson red seal certification
  • Five or more years’ of relevant maintenance experience in the maintenance of pipelines, oil and gas facilities, refineries, pulp and paper, mine process, or other related industries preferred
  • Candidates with a relevant second certification or significant experience in instrumentation or heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) trades preferred
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proven mechanical aptitude and understanding, with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with experience around operating rotating equipment
  • Extensive knowledge in the operation and repair of HVAC systems and controls is considered a highly desirable asset
  • Self-starter with strong time management skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Experience in SAP or similar computer based maintenance management system
  • Working knowledge of MS Office software specifically Excel, Word and Outlook

Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • The day shift schedule is eight days on / six days off rotation
  • After hours on-call rotation and emergency response participation required
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
  • Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible candidates
  • Flexible to work overtime when required and able to work with minimal supervision
  • This role requires you to perform some heavy lifting, work from heights with the capability of performing in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
  • You thrive in a dynamic environment with multiple priorities, challenging demands and function positively in a dynamic collaborative work environment
