Job Overview

Reporting to the Project Manager, on a dynamic integrated team, you will be responsible for executing multiple concurrent expense and capital projects on time and on budget, supporting front end concept design and coordinating the execution component.

Key Accountabilities

  • Define and execute projects using a stage-gate project management model, engage partners, set and manage plans and schedules, while adhering to our journey to zero safety mindset
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary expense and capital projects from inception through commissioning and handover to operations, while finding opportunities to reduce risk and cost and to improve asset reliability, safety, and environmental performance
  • Coordinate all technical design documents and drawings with internal and external technical support
  • Run, track, and report on real-time project status, including project estimating, scheduling, and risk management
  • Perform technical reviews and evaluations of engineered drawings, reports, proposals, and equipment design and specification with integrity
  • Manage project procurement of Suncor-supplied goods and services, working with supply chain management (SCM) and support groups
  • Co-ordinate and liaise with internal groups including operations, maintenance, and technical; coordinate project execution with general contractor multi-functional teams
  • Perform field reviews and site meetings during construction

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • 5 or more years of experience in execution of projects, tailings project experience is preferred
  • Engineering degree in a relevant field such as civil/mechanical/process/electrical
  • Registration with APEGA as a Professional Engineer, or eligibility to register within the province of Alberta
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Project engineering competency, leadership skills, and strong technical & problem solving capability
  • Deep understanding of Oil Sands & Tailings operations and projects
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, scheduling software, and computer-aided design (CAD)
  • You collaborate with others in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • You continually seek greater knowledge about the systems, processes and hazards in the workplace, in order to understand not just what you do but why you do it
  • You hold others accountable, and expect others to do the same
