Engineering Technologist (Environmental)

In this dynamic role reporting to the Manager of our Field Services group, you will be assisting Suncor by building a distinctive competitive advantage by working with an elite team of environmental technologists. In this fast paced environment you will work as a safe, reliable, and efficient team member to help support the environmental monitoring within the field services and water resource groups at Suncor Base Plant.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Be committed to ensuring that environmental field monitoring is completed safely, accurately and in a cost effective and timely manner
  • Conduct internal and compliance groundwater monitoring, essential to internal Suncor Oil Sands Mining Occupational Health, Safety and Security (OHS&S) standards, as well as regulatory/legislative requirements
  • Collaborate with the geotechnical group with hydrogeological related field work
  • Conduct hydro-metrics monitoring programs including snow surveys, stream gauging
  • Assist with compliance in accordance to the Department of Fishers and Oceans (DFO) aquatics monitoring
  • Conduct soil monitoring activities during salvage activities and capture required data
  • Ensure reliability of field data and maintain sampling equipment and supplies

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • At least three years of experience as an environmental technologist or a similar role
  • A post-secondary education in an Environmental Technology program
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
  • Strong collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups
  • The ability to anticipate potential problems and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions, as well as having a strong sense of accountability
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Experience on a mining site or oil sands environment

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • The shift schedule is a five days on / four days off rotation, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible individuals
