Industrial Hygienist

In this role, you will be responsible to identify, assess and communicate health risks to our employees by planning, scheduling and conducting identified industrial hygiene monitoring projects for your assigned areas.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Provide day-to-day technical advice, expertise and direction to clients to ensure compliance with legislative requirements, industry and company standards
  • Build workplace assessments to identify, quantify and control risks to people, property and equipment and identify, mitigate chemical, physical, biological and ergonomics issues
  • Engage in the development and implementation of hygiene programs and processes that support the business
  • Collaborate with other key groups and departments, in safety committees and with regulatory authorities
  • Perform statistical analyses from the Industrial Hygiene database
  • Incorporate exposure assessment strategies in quantifying health hazards and verifying controls during ongoing operations and maintenance activities
  • Work with diverse groups and various subject matter experts to implement or sustain Industrial Hygiene programs
  • Engage front line leaders and workers in evaluation, control, communication and education
  • Craft program effectiveness evaluations in assigned business areas
  • Lead Protective Equipment trials in various business units across various business unit and develop associated implementation plans
  • Execute annual work plan sampling

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Three years of industrial hygiene experience
  • Experience with monitoring methods and assessments, including: chemicals, noise, heat stress, lighting, ventilations systems, ergonomics, and abatement/remediation activities
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a science discipline
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean drivers abstract

Preference for:

  • A Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene or a Certified Industrial Hygienist/Registered Occupational Hygiene Technician/Registered Occupational Hygienist (or equivalent) professional designation
  • Passionate about providing solutions to complex issues utilizing proficient analytical, problem solving skills and independent judgment
  • Dynamic technical writing and presentation skills to report monitored results to management
  • Excellent Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) skills
  • Self-starter with exceptional communication skills and ability to interact cross-functionally and with key partners
  • Flexibility to shift focus and handle multiple tasks
  • You collaborate with others in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • You continually seek greater knowledge about the systems, processes and hazards in the workplace, in order to understand not just what you do but why you do it  

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • This position is located at Base Plant in Fort McMurray and supports various business units
  • Supporting the industrial hygiene program in unionized environment.
  • Shifts Schedule: 40 hour work week, with on call support, as required
  • Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible candidates
