Are you an organized, safety conscious individual with excellent time management skills looking for an exciting new career opportunity? In this role, you will be responsible for the safe and accurate testing of finished products and unit streams in accordance to established quality management system (QMS) and standard operating procedures (SOP) within Suncor’s MacKay River Laboratory.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Performing routine and project based sampling and analytical work on petroleum and wastewater samples, following standard operating procedures in a safe and effective manner
  • Record and report analytical results in compliance with established QA/QC procedures
  • Comply with the Suncor operating and maintenance safe work practices,
    procedures and standards
  • Support the department and Suncor’s internal customers by providing analytical, instrumental, and technical problem solving
  • Learn and grow with the Organization

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • A Bachelor of Science in chemistry, or a chemical technology diploma from a recognized institution
  • 5 (five) or more years of operational laboratory experience
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Preference for:

  • Working knowledge of laboratory information management systems (e.g. LIMS)
  • Strong collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups
  • The ability to anticipate potential problems and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions, as well as having a strong sense of accountability
  • A continuous improvement mindset and can seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, process and hazards in the workplace
  • A zero-tolerance for shortcuts, and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our MacKay River site in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • The shift schedule is 3 days / 3 nights and 6 days off; 12-hour shifts
  • You will be required to perform some heavy lifting and work in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
