Maintenance Engineer, Shovels

LOCATION: Fort McMurray, Alberta (CA-AB)

Job Overview

Reporting to the manager, reliability shovels, you will provide field level maintenance engineering and equipment reliability support for the base plant shovel fleet.

Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance to identify improvement opportunities to overall safety, availability, and reliability of the assets
  • Assist the maintenance execution team with equipment issues and creative troubleshooting, and work towards a resolution
  • Conduct failure analysis and root cause investigations, and develop recommendations and action plans to prevent reoccurrence
  • Conduct and support field condition monitoring activities
  • Develop maintenance scopes of work and design small scope engineering solutions for equipment modifications and/or repair
  • Liaise with shovel vendors and original equipment manufacturers to resolve technical issues
  • Identify bad actors and work with the reliability engineers to drive and implement improvements

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Four or more years of hands-on field experience in mobile mining or heavy equipment reliability, and maintenance engineering
  • Experience on PH4100, CAT7495 and/or a hydraulic shovel is a strong asset
  • Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering
  • Registered or immediately eligible for registration with the association of professional engineers and geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) as a professional engineer
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite with a working knowledge of SAP
  • Well-developed critical thinking, with an ability to apply logic and challenge assumptions
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze data, conduct root cause assessment, and present conclusions and recommendations
  • A positive and passionate personality, with the natural ability to effectively communicate with others, and work well in a dynamic and diverse team environment
  • You are a highly motivated self-starter who make decisions with integrity and support company objectives and policies
  • You constantly ask what could go wrong and take initiative to check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential problems

Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • The shift schedule is a seven days on/ seven days off rotation
  • You will be required to perform work on elevated work sites with the ability to perform in a variety of different environments as well as within confined spaces
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
  • Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible candidates
