Mechanical Engineer

We have a phenomenal development opportunity for Mechanical Engineers with fixed plant-based experience to join our team in Fort McMurray. You will interact with cross-functional teams, maintenance, and operations groups to maintain safe operational capability of process units. Dedication to continuous improvement to provide detailed technical assistance for day-to-day upgrading operations will be paramount.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Provide leadership, by acting as an example, to promote a culture of safe and reliable equipment
  • Troubleshoot equipment in complex systems
  • Take initiative in the assessment of emerging and ongoing risks and provide effective mitigation strategies
  • Provide technical expertise for damage mechanism mitigation and assessment for fixed equipment in the Upgrader including: pressure vessels, piping, heat exchangers, storage tanks and furnaces
  • Design and develop equipment repair methods and procedures, complete analysis of failures, and communicate these advanced concepts in detailed technical reports
  • Determine cost advantages of repair alternatives and develop action plans that comply with demands for timely repair of processes/equipment
  • Review engineering studies for equipment repair prepared by junior engineers
  • Collaborate with maintenance and operations to ensure engineered solutions can be implemented safely and will perform in a safe manner
  • Inspect work at external fabrication and repair shops when required
  • Support new equipment installation projects by considering the maintainability and impact of costs on recommended action plans for avoiding/correcting problems during the design phase
  • Conduct an analysis of reliability problems and investigate to determine the required reliability approach to avoid failures

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Maintenance, reliability, and project experience in process plants or refineries
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Been registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • Working knowledge of ASME BPVC, ASME B31.3, API 650/653, API 571, API 579, API 580/581
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Preference for:

  • SAP Business Warehouse knowledge
  • American Petroleum Institute (API) inspection and repair experience
  • Working knowledge of fitness for service analysis and fixed equipment repair techniques
  • Knowledge in RCM and RBI methodologies
  • Experience working in refineries or large industrial sites

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant site in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible individuals
