Mechanical Engineer-In-Training

You will use your expertise to:

  • Provide leadership by acting as an example to promote a culture of safety
  • Steward solutions for bad actor resolution
  • Identify opportunities to optimize plant availability, reliability and market competitiveness
  • Find new ways to apply modern technology and methods for continuous improvement.
  • Take initiative to manage emerging risks and provide effective solutions
  • Ensure that engineered solutions can be implemented safely and will perform in a reliable manner during routine and major maintenance events.
  • Investigate failures to uncover opportunities
  • Inspect work at external vendor shops when required to confirm desired results
  • Participate in risk reviews to ensure consistency with goals
  • Interacting and upholding a good relationship with the Pressure Equipment Regulator
  • Build risk assessments and recommend short term solutions and long term plans for mitigation and control


We’d like to hear from you if you have…

(minimum requirements):

  • One or more years of experience in the oil and gas industry
  • Knowledge of American Petroleum Institute (API) standards and guidelines
  • An undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Registered, or 3 years from eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • The capability to determine potential problems and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions, as well as having a strong sense of accountability
  • Collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships within a group of diverse individuals
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Preference for:

  • Fixed plant maintenance and reliability experience
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office; SAP; CAD; with a thirst for new data analysis tools


Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant Upgrader in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • Frequent field work is required
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible individuals
