Operations Shift Supervisor, MacKay River

In this role, you will support our MacKay River operations in Fort McMurray in the day-to-day management of safe, efficient and reliable production within the operating area, and all aspects of personnel management and coaching at the front line level.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to support our safety initiatives and ensure policies, procedures and safe work practices are followed
  • Assist with the planning for operational tasks such as equipment isolation, control of hazardous energy and confined space entry preparation
  • Assist in developing the scope of work for operations and maintenance planning
  • Build and review operational job plans by investigating work requirements and preparing logical breakdowns
  • Maintain a visible presence in the field to develop and support employee engagement and assess work process effectiveness
  • Lead troubleshooting initiatives and engage appropriate cross-functional resources to analyze and correct operational and equipment problems
  • Provide input and guidance to help identify risks items and defined action plans and opportunities for improvement
  • Lead effective incident investigations, implement corrective actions to prevent re-occurrences and develop creative solutions

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Five years of field operations experience in the energy industry
  • Five years of supervisory or leadership experience
  • Your 2nd Class Power Engineer’s Certification
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Preference for:

  • Experience at a SAGD facility
  • Commissioning, start-up, shut-down and turnaround experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and at least one industry standard enterprise resource planning tool (preferably SAP)
  • A strong understanding of maintenance, operations and process safety standards related to the safe and efficient operation of the assets
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of hazardous energy and associated work permit practices
  • In-depth knowledge of all regulatory ABSA requirements
  • Motivation and initiative, and can make decisions with integrity in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • The proven ability to effectively communicate and interact with others across a multitude of business units to build strong positive working relationships

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our MacKay River site in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • The shift schedule is a six days on/six days off rotation (three days on, three nights on, six days off; 12-hour shifts)
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible individuals
