Job Overview

Are you passionate about safety, building positive relationships, working within a strong team environment and highly motivated, then we have the role for you. Reporting to a shift supervisor, extraction, you will qualify and perform operating responsibilities and actively learn all operating units at our facility and progress in increasing levels of responsibility.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure the safety of our people, equipment, and the environment and that plant policies are followed
  • Perform plant operation duties for smooth and efficient operations and ensure shift changes are well communicated
  • Report and appropriately flag all plant-related issues beyond your scope to your leader
  • Prepare and complete daily area logs and communicate significant changes and findings in a timely manner
  • Provide direction and supervision to the maintenance and contract personnel as required
  • Ensure timely action and process adjustments during plant upsets that are consistent with operational objectives and target outputs
  • Prepare equipment and systems for maintenance and commissioning
  • Maintain housekeeping in your assigned area at a high level

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • One year of experience in plant operations
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Mechanical aptitude to allow the hands-on operation of plant equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to make timely decisions associated with process upsets
  • Adaptive work style with an ability to handle multiple priorities, challenging demands and function in a positive but dynamic work environment
  • You are a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to make decisions with integrity and support company objectives and policies
  • You do not take or tolerate shortcuts and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it
  • You constantly ask what could go wrong and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential problems

Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • The shift schedule is a six days on/six days off rotation (three days, three nights; 12-hour shifts)
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
  • Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance eligible applicants
