Job Overview

Reporting to the mine tailings production manager, you will be responsible for issuing safe work permits and overseeing the  control of hazardous energy for our tailings assets. You will act as a liaison between the mine tailings operations, maintenance, and third party contractor teams to coordinate activities in the operations areas and execute safe work practices.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assist the maintenance planning department with operational tasks such as equipment isolation for control of hazardous energy, confined space entry preparation and coordination of equipment preparation and equipment preventative maintenance etc.
  • Issue permits and administer hazardous energy controls within the limits of the mine tailings area
  • Act as the subject matter expert in the areas of control of hazardous energy and permit to work
  • Prepare and review routine maintenance job plans by investigating work requirements, preparing logical breakdowns, and sequencing  work tasks, taking into account multi-craft alignment
  • Maintain and audit the safe work permits filing system and lock boxes
  • Track and review the equipment isolation and blind list
  • Ensure compliance of relevant policies and standards including the management of change process and maintenance business processes
  • Monitor the effective application of field level hazard assessments, our incident learning and prevention program, our safety observation system, and all health, safety and environmental standards
  • Ensure that the permit to work updates and changes are communicated to all relevant personnel

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Three or more years of experience working in a coordination or planning role for an operational area in the oil sands or a similar industry
  • Experience working with a permitting system on equipment associated with a tailings facility, including barge/dredge pumping systems and tailings lines
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Deep understanding of maintenance and operations best practices as related to the production of bitumen
  • Working knowledge in control of hazardous energy and associated safe work permits practices (confined space entry, cranes lift, ground disturbance, etc.)
  • Competency in the use of Microsoft Office and SAP or other enterprise resource planning software is an asset
  • Business mindset with strong problem solving, decisions making and analytical skills with strong organizational and planning skills
  • You have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in strong cross-functional working relationships
  • You have the ability to manage conflicting priorities, multitask and deliver on aggressive timelines in a dynamic environment

Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • This is a camp-based position at the Fort Hills site
  • The shift schedule is a seven days on/ seven days off rotation
