You will use your expertise to:

  • Ensure that all technical changes are carried out in accordance with the industry standards and our relevant process safety and environmental protocols
  • Act as the lead process engineer during the concept to commissioning stages of sustaining projects in Upgrading
  • Identify optimum and technically sound design solutions during concept selection and front end engineering design
  • Provide technical support to identify, investigate and resolve plant operational and performance issues
  • Lead structured problem analysis, design reviews, HAZOP and process hazard analysis (PHA)
  • Lead investigations, performance optimization, process improvement studies and technical audits
  • Collaborate with internal and external networks and implement the best engineering practices and guidelines and technical procedures to ensure the safer, reliable and efficient operations of our plants
  • Provide necessary technical support to the planning and execution of plant maintenance outages and startups
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the junior process engineers

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Four to six years of process engineering experience in upgrading, refining,  petrochemical or, design and detailed engineering (EPC) area
  • A bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering with strong process engineer knowledge
  • Registration (or immediately eligible for registration) with the association of professional engineers and geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) as a professional engineer
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Preference for:

  • Knowledge of all relevant federal and provincial laws and regulations governing environmental performance
  • Technical expertise in the design, operation and maintenance of hydrocarbon processing systems
  • Hands-on experience in process simulation software
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills that enable you to make structured decisions with integrity in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • The proven ability to effectively communicate and interact with others across a multitude of business units to develop and build strong positive working relationships
  • An adaptive work style with an ability to handle multiple priorities, challenging demands and function in a positive but dynamic work environment

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant operation in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible individuals
