Process Engineer-in-Training

You will use your expertise to:

  • Provide process engineering support to plant contact engineers and senior engineers in their technical evaluations and/or troubleshooting plant performance issues
  • Develop process engineering studies to address existing plant bottleneck, risk mitigation or to improve performance
  • Provide technical support to investigations, performance optimization and process improvement initiatives  
  • Identify optimum and technically sound design solutions during concept selection and engineering design
  • Ensure all technical changes are carried out in accordance with the industry standards and relevant process safety and environmental protocols
  • Carryout process engineering evaluations on distillation towers, pumps, heat exchanger, relief devices, control valves and other process equipment
  • Participate in design reviews, risk reviews and hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies
  • Support structured troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis
  • Carryout field level support such as temperature and pressure surveys, equipment performance assessment, sample collection, lab analysis and deriving conclusions
  • Develop process simulation and hydraulic models

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Been registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Preference for:

  • One to three years of process engineering experience in upgrading, refining, petrochemical or, design and detailed engineering facilities
  • Understanding of the design and operation of hydrocarbon processing systems
  • Familiarity in process simulation software
  • Analytical and problem solving skills that enable you to make decisions to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate and interact with others to develop and build strong positive working relationships
  • An adaptive work style with an ability to handle multiple priorities, challenging demands and function in a positive but dynamic work environment

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant Operations in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • This position is safety-sensitive
  • This is a temporary position for a period of approximately 12 months
