If you are seeking a student opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting tasks and activities relating to engineering process safety, then we have a great opportunity with the Process Safety team. You will aid with the coordination of process safety related activities with a primary focus on process hazard analysis.  

You will use your expertise to:

  • Support Process Safety Engineers in preparing and conducting Process Hazard Analysis (PHA). This may include:
    • Gather and review relevant process safety incidents and learnings
    • Prepare Process Safety Information packages
    • Support consequence analysis under guidance of a P. Eng
    • Provide support during the PHA study sessions
  • Develop and maintain internal departmental processes
  • Track, monitor, report and steward process safety metrics
  • Work with Process Safety Engineers to support consistent and standardized approaches to operational discipline and conformance to the Process Safety standards and processes

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Current enrolment in a 3rd year Engineering program, with a preference for Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, at an accredited post-secondary institution, and returning to full-time studies after the work term (attach your transcripts with your application)
  • Well-developed skills with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel)
  • Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills
  • The ability to prioritize work to meet deadline, and adapt to change easily
  • Document management skills
  • Influential skills to drive collaboration across Suncor
  • Alignment with our values: safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity

Preference for:

  • A continuous improvement mindset and are able to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, process and hazards in the workplace

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible individuals
  • Travel to sites in the region may be required
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • This is an 8 or 12-month work term, starting in May 2021
