Specialist, IT Executive Support

We are seeking a dedicated, well-rounded IT support specialist to be a go-to resource to our Board of Director members and the Suncor Executive Leadership team for all end-user service offerings and Suncor related assets. The successful candidate will provide leadership, structure and guidance to internal functional teams and to the vendors who supply services to the IT Operations organization and will ensure communication and pro-active strategies are executed in alignment with our operations discipline behaviors and Suncor values. The IT Executive Support Specialist will provide key input into User Support strategy and will be responsible for identification and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities and facilitating the outcomes in collaboration with vendors to support D&IT initiatives. The incumbent will be an integral member of our User Support leadership team and direct a team outsource partners supporting enterprise services.

You will use your expertise to:

Desk-Side Support:

  • Installation, configuration and troubleshooting of desktops, laptops, telephony, mobile and other related desktop technology devices.
  • Installation, configuration and troubleshooting of end user services supported applications.
  • Liaise with other D&IT teams as required to resolve non end-user services problems

Meeting Service Support:

  • Setup of key meetings including connecting video conference end points, phone bridges, and ensuring content is displayed on screens.
  • Troubleshooting of Suncor meeting room technologies
  • Offsite support of meetings in third party meeting facilities (AGM’s, off sites etc,)

Stewardship and Reporting:

  • Enters and maintain records in Suncor’s system of record for all calls done for executives. Work logs maintained to identify specific steps taken to resolve an issue.
  • Provides a monthly travel report for all off site visits
  • Maintains a webcast schedule with weekly reporting

Leadership Accountabilities:

  • Responsible to ensure adequate backfill resources are trained and available to provide support during times of unavailability (sickness, vacation, training)
  • Responsible for building and maintaining effective relationships with key Executive Leaders and Board Members.
  • May require partnering with Executive Assistants to help coordinate Executive end-user support


  • Develop, Execute, Maintain, and Improve the communication strategy for the Executive Leadership and Board members
  • Develop of plan will include Process, Goals, and Results

Pro-active Enablement

  • Develop, Execute, Maintain, and Improve the Pro-active for the Executive Leadership Team and Suncor Board members
  • Development of plan that aligns to outcome of the ELT and Board Members

Dedicated Training

  • Develop and Execute dedicated training for the Executive Leadership and Board members for new or on-going items

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Computer Science degree or Technical College diploma (ie S.A.I.T.) with 5-10 years of progressive support in infrastructure operations experience including a minimum of 2 years leading / managing teams
  • 10 years Oil and Gas industry experience
  • Strong technical knowledge of infrastructure operations with specific knowledge of hardware and operating systems, Microsoft productivity software, mobile devices and desktop management software.
  • Experience supporting senior executives in a large corporate environment (VP and above)
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Ability to work effectively with various sizes of highly focused and geographically dispersed teams
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends as necessary
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and deal with sometimes extended periods of stress and demand.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain high levels of confidentiality

Preference for:

  • ITIL Foundation Certification
  • Working knowledge of ServiceNow and SAP
  • Ability to work in a team-based, client-centered environment
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, and technical skills
  • Sense of urgency for resolution of key issues/initiatives
  • Professionalism, strong planning and organizational skills

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of a Syncrude location in Fort McMurray
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • This position involves an "on call" rotation schedule
