Specialist, IT Field Services

We are looking for an individual who will serve as a subject matter expert for their business areas, supporting the implementation of centrally led Information Technology (IT) projects and initiatives, and coordinating the implementation of on-site and local IT infrastructure requests. The role comes with a high degree of responsibility in building and improving client relationships with Suncor Business Units and with IT Operations and promoting IT Services. They will also ensure communication to clients are business-friendly and customer-centric, identify continuous improvement opportunities, and ensure that IT Operations meets or exceeds reliability and service level objectives.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Leverage local site IT Operations personnel and represent IT as local on-site manager when required
  • Manage escalation activities and issue resolution on behalf of the business
  • Provide IT operational change governance so that the business impact review is completed to decrease client interruption and ensure completeness of IT changes
  • Participate in and translate technical analysis for post incident reviews (PIR) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for the business
  • Provide key stakeholders notice of changes or impacts to IT services through formal written communications
  • Identify operational excellence (process and efficiency) improvements and opportunities, by analyzing trends from service requests
  • Provide local site knowledge or key client contacts to support IT Operations initiatives, enhancements, and projects
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with all Digital and Enterprise Technical (D&ET) teams providing services to the business, service providers, key business personnel and local vendors
  • Support high priority and critical business events, including turnarounds
  • Represent IT Operations to local leadership teams, as required

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Experience in a similar role
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry
  • A post-secondary education in Business, Computer Science or IT
  • Technical knowledge of infrastructure operations and infrastructure technologies including desktop computing, mobile computing, server / storage technologies, networks, structured cabling, telephony, and messaging systems
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision and with teams that are geographically dispersed
  • Superior interpersonal skills coupled with professionalism and the ability to work in a team-based, client-centered environment
  • Extraordinary communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to adapt to different audiences and have strong conflict identification and resolution skills
  • Alignment with our values: safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity

Preference for:

  • Experience with project management
  • An ITIL Certification
  • Working knowledge of ServiceNow and SAP

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of a Syncrude location in Fort McMurray
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
