Mine Support Superintendent

In this fast-paced role, you will have the opportunity to provide area management for coordinating and verifying the safe and efficient execution for drainage activity and the West Side operation.

 You will use your expertise to:

  • Manage safe, reliable and efficient West Side peration and dewatering activity supporting the active overburden and oil sand mining activity
  • Be accountable for safety, including completing environmental, health and safety plan verifications, workplace observations, oversight of incident investigations, and root cause analysis
  • Ensure that operations adhere to the tasks supporting the Environmental and Regulatory compliance
  • Review, improve and ensure adherence to procedures and work practices
  • Understand and provide input into the tactical forecast, strategic planning and working within the financial budget
  • Document and provide strategy to the 24-hour plan for supervisors and ensure compliance
  • Perform regular inspections and audits to meet or exceed base mine’s practices and standards
  • Lead the supervisory team to mentor and coach performance and support development

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in mining and/or civil earthwork operations
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
  • Strong proficiency in working independently, leadership, planning, verbal and written communication skills, resilience, customer service and interpersonal relations

Preference for:

  • An undergraduate degree in Civil or Mine Engineering and/or a relevant technologist certificate
  • Proficiency or tendency to identify financial improvement as it pertains to mining activities
  • Working knowledge of current applicable occupational health and safety requirements; AMSA certificate would be an asset
  • Demonstrable knowledge in the preparation of operational plans, safety reports and stewardship reports
  • Proven proficiency in the operation of personal computers and typical Microsoft Office programs, knowledge of SAP and Power BI
  • A continuous improvement mindset and can seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, process and hazards in the workplace

 Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible individuals
