Job Overview

Reporting to the director U.S. trading, you will be responsible for completing fundamental, international and North American oil market analysis with a focus in the United States Gulf Coast (USGC) and mid-continent areas in order to improve US and Canadian trading decisions.

Key Accountabilities

  • Reconcile daily USGC and mid continent trade books, including tie-out with middle office and variance analysis
  • Manage and update deals and revisions in trading system, performing pricing studies for the traders
  • Coordinate with front and middle office analysts/schedulers to reconcile inventories and positions for U.S. crude trading and with mid and back office on accounting/reconciliation issues
  • Gather and communicate market information; researching and summarizing key international, U.S. crude oil fundamentals for the US and Canadian traders
  • Perform supply/demand studies for Canadian and US crudes in the USGC and mid-continent regions, developing efficient reporting mechanisms to communicate market performance with corporate headquarters
  • Confirm crude oil purchase and sales volumes and locations with counterparties as required

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum two years industry experience,  prior crude oil/energy experience relating to North American energy markets is preferred
  • Refinery planning and/or operations experience is an asset
  • University or college degree is required
  • High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Excellent analytical skills with an ability to multi-task
  • Strong interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills (particularly Excel); ability to learn CXL trading system
  • Ability to effectively work in a dynamic team  with minimal supervision
  • Understanding of commodity market trading is an asset

Working Conditions

  • This position is based in Houston, Texas at the Houston Business Office
  • Open office team environment
  • Infrequent travel to head office and crude oil facilities including ability to travel to Canada is required
