Job Overview

Reporting to the team leader, sales and marketing accounting,  you will be responsible for the administration of retail site leases, providing analysis and interpretation of fixed and variable lease contractual obligations and common area payments, ensuring payments are generated accurately and on time. You will support the Canadian retail and wholesale businesses and work closely with asset management, retail managers, site operations, legal, credit, and special project teams. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Act as the primary lease accounting support for the western Canada business
  • Establish and monitor key financial processes, record required financial transactions, respond to business and customer queries and investigate unusual year-over-year variances
  • Complete lease month-end activities, including rental accruals, amortization and payments
  • Administer fixed commissions for Petro-Pass and retail agents
  • Ensure all new lease contracts and commission agreements, including renewals and modifications, are properly set up in the lease system
  • Liaise with contract administrators to ensure the accuracy of lease records, prepayments, advances, incentive loans and repayments
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and resolve outstanding issues
  • Complete value creating ad-hoc analysis and projects as initiated by business stakeholders or accounting
  • Provide backup support for other sales and marketing accounting deliverables as required
  • Assist the project team with the implementation of new International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS16) for leases by capturing required information and responding to queries

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Three or more years of experience in financial analysis/accounting
  • Validated accounting and analytical skills with good command of fundamental accounting principles
  • Bachelor degree (preferred) or college diploma with a finance or accounting discipline in accounting or equivalent education

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Thorough knowledge of the SAP financial module
  • Understanding of business contracts; rental, performance-based and/or operating leases
  • General knowledge of the retail and wholesale petroleum businesses
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills to perform complex analyses
  • Ability to partner and communicate effectively with remote stakeholders and key business contacts
  • Possess a continuous improvement mindset and look for opportunities to enhance processes

Working Conditions

  • This position is based in Mississauga, Ontario at the Sheridan Park Business Centre
  • This is a Temporary role for a 14 month period
