Job Overview:

Are you someone who has a critical thinking mindset, with the ability to think creatively and come up with innovative solutions? We are looking for you. Working closely with our category director in Supply Chain Management, you will partner with our internal teams to understand and forecast demand for and provision of materials and services, develop and implement commercial strategies, participate in and oversee negotiations of contracts, ensure supplier performance is being managed effectively and identify commercial optimization and demand reduction opportunities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of the suppliers, commodities and meaningful market forces that can impact the downstream sales and marketing business
  • Consolidate short and long-term demand for materials and services at the business unit level
  • Work with key internal partners and business units to develop and implement commercial strategies that enable the business to drive value and optimize results
  • Develop, negotiate and draft commercial agreements for the provision of materials and services consistent with stated business requirements
  • Lead negotiations of all contracts within the sub-category to ensure compliance and overall spend management is consistent with overall strategy
  • Ensure effective roll out of negotiated terms and conditions to respective peers and business stakeholders, and establish and maintain strategic supplier relationships while addressing recommendations

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Five or more years of experience as a direct leader, developing and mentoring high performing teams
  • 10 - 15 years of industry experience is preferred
  • Post-secondary degree in business, economics, law or engineering preferred

Skills and Knowledge:

  • You bring a deep understanding of respective sub-category and contractual terms and conditions
  • You can easily adapt to multiple priorities and challenging demands in a dynamic environment and you have a strategic, continuous improvement mindset
  • You are a critical thinker with a strong commercial and financial acumen and you are a problem solver who finds solutions that focus on driving true value for Suncor
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, supported by active listening behaviors with a keen ability to influence and negotiate
  • You are results oriented, with a deep understanding of the importance of accountability and focused execution

Working Conditions

  • This position is based in Mississauga, with the leader being based in Calgary
  • You will lead a team of four direct reports
  • Domestic travel to Suncor’s operating sites may be required on an infrequent basis
