Manager, Solution Design, Petro-Canada

Job Overview

Are you excited and passionate about helping us modernize our retail technology platforms at our Petro-Canada gas stations, through leading our solution design teams on large scale transformational information technology (IT) projects? Do you pride yourself on your leadership, collaboration and stakeholder management abilities? Reporting to the director, solution design and build (SD&D), we have an excellent leadership opportunity managing the IT solution design service function for our retail business.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide effective leadership, direction, influence, and support to your team of solution designers and technical contractors to execute on our retail portfolio of IT projects
  • Cultivate strong working relationships and partnerships between your team, multi-functional teams, outsource partners (including off-shore), technology vendors, and with our retail business partners to deliver on the service management lifecycle
  • Contribute to the SD&D technical strategic direction through the development of solution methods and procedures
  • Develop the methodologies, approaches, and ways of executing work in a large portfolio by partnering with enterprise architecture, program managers, and operations
  • Ensure solutions are in line with the overall enterprise architecture, corporate standards and roadmaps, and designed are based on the specification of the business
  • Help to influence and shape how our operations teams sustain and drive work in the future in the retail portfolio
  • Collaborate and negotiate with multiple vendors regarding  large program deliverables, including resourcing and cost implications
  • Participates in the SD&D leadership team meetings, steering committee meetings and technology review boards, as appropriate

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • 10 or more years of work experience, preferably in IT or projects; five or more years of people leadership experience
  • Five plus years of experience in designing technical solutions in a retail environment
  • Experience managing the execution of a large and complex solution design  portfolio in excess of $30M is preferred
  • You have exposure to working in a dynamic, multi-cultural and matrix environment with dispersed teams
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management or a related field

Skills and Knowledge:

  • You have proven technical capability in one or more retail application domains (e.g. point-of-sale, loyalty, transaction processing, .NET)
  • Knowledge of Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is an asset
  • You are a self-starter that takes initiative to navigate technical complexities and meet business needs through strong partner management
  • You possess exceptional communication skills, relationship management, leadership and coaching skills

Working Conditions

  • This role will work out of our Mississauga and Oakville offices based on business need
  • Limited travel may be required to Calgary or Fort McMurray
