Specialist, Merchandising, Petro-Canada

Job Overview

Reporting to the team leader, merchandising, you will provide support and guidance for the execution of our store set-ups and merchandising strategies at all Petro-Canada retail and wholesale locations. You will combine analytical skills and category insights in order to optimize store layouts to maximize incremental purchases in an effort to grow overall store sales and margin.

Key Accountabilities

  • Execute end-to-end merchandising processes for all new stores, existing store refreshes, divest projects and other initiatives for all Petro-Canada locations
  • Collaborate with the operations team to solution concerns and optimize existing store layouts
  • Combine historical performance data, shopper insights and merchandising practices to determine optimal space-to-sales representation for product categories at each site
  • Use design software to develop optimal store layouts that increase the shopping experience and improve store sales
  • Work with authorized vendors to produce quotes and create orders for all equipment, millwork and store fixtures required for store set-ups
  • Coordinate third-party contractors for on-site implementation
  • Collaborate with category management teams on planogram reviews and new planogram development, ensuring flawless execution at store level

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Three or more years of experience in category management, convenience retailing or retail operations, preferably in  merchandising
  • Experience applying merchandising principles and strategies is a plus
  • Exposure to project management or coordination is preferred
  • Bachelor degree (business preference) is an asset
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Bilingualism in English and French is an asset; Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to write and present effective and straightforward communications
  • You have excellent computer skills and are able to pick-up new software programs quickly
  • Well-developed analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to exhibit independent judgement to make decisions and deliver actionable recommendations from analysis
  • You are dynamic with effective listening skills and strong collaboration and interpersonal skills for dealing with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Strong time-management skills with the ability to prioritize and  manage multiple projects with timely results

Working Conditions

  • Occasional local travel to retail sites as required
