Job Overview

Reporting to the team lead, instrumentation, you will be joining our Montréal refinery’s engineering group and be responsible for selecting sensors and actuators, installing them and connecting them up throughout the plant to the control systems. You will be responsible for performing various tasks that will allow you to become familiar with the codes and standards of the industry and ensure your progress technically.

Key Accountabilities

  • Describe the automation equipment on the process and instrumentation diagrams and in the functional description documents
  • Ensure the design of process safety systems meets the risk reduction criteria
  • Provide support to the maintenance group for continuous improvement requests
  • Ensure that HAZOP (hazard and operability study) recommendations are followed up on and carried out
  • Provide technical support as needed to the operations, maintenance and construction groups
  • Handle projects that have been assigned, ensuring they are completed on time and on budget using the processes in place for projects completion
  • Provide a technical review and an “owner's perspective” for projects carried out with affiliated and partnering engineering firms
  • Ensure compliance with the standards and requirements of Suncor and of the industry

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Oil and gas industry experience is preferred but not required
  • Recent graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Eligible for registration with the OIQ (Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec)

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Bilingual (English and French)
  • Knowledge of CSA, ISA, ASME and API codes and Foxbro DCs and Triconex PLCs is an asset
  • Strong analytical, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills with an ability to handle multiple competing priorities and manage time effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) with a drive to build strong, positive relationships with key stakeholders
  • You are a motivated self-starter with a passion to continuously learn
  • You value integrity and hold others accountable and expect others to do the same
