Project Engineer

As a project engineer, you will be part of a dynamic and integrated team located in Montreal Refinery. Under the supervision of the Team Leader, Project Engineering, the project engineer will be responsible for the development and execution of a portfolio of projects in various areas of the Montreal Refinery. The project engineer will have to demonstrate leadership throughout all phases of the project with a multi-disciplinary team of Suncor employees and partners (consulting firms, contractors). The project engineer will act as a resource person between engineering, operations, construction, maintenance and other services until the project is commissioned.
You will use your expertise to:

  • Safely and successfully, manage a multi-disciplinary project portfolio on time and on budget using the Suncor project delivery method
  • Manage projects related to maintenance, reliability, safety and environment aimed at reducing operational risks
  • Provide a technical review and an "owner perspective" for projects with affiliated engineering firms and partners
  • Provide ad hoc technical support to the operation, maintenance and construction groups
  • Ensure that Suncor and industry standards and requirements are met

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Fluent in French (spoken and written)
  • 10 years of work experience as an engineer in the industrial sector with project management experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Membership in good standing with the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
  • You are resourceful and versatile when it comes to solving problems and you keep a strong attention to details
  • You are a results-oriented leader with exceptional analytical  and priority management skills
  • You have an ability to manage multiple priorities, challenging demands and function positively in a dynamic, collaborative work environment
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Fluent in English for frequent external communications (spoken and written)
  • Mechanical engineer with project management experience in an industrial setting

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work at our Montreal Refinery, located at 11701 Sherbrooke East Street
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday 
  • Depending on the nature of the role, we have implemented a Hybrid Work Model to provide our employees with a combination of office-based work and ‘work from home’ flexibility (to learn more, speak to your recruiter)
  • You will work in a variety of environments, both indoor and outdoor, in confined spaces or at heights and sometimes requiring the use of respiratory protection equipment
