This role gives you an opportunity to play an important role in implementing the culture of safety at the Montréal refinery. Reporting to the team lead of Hygiene and Safety, you are responsible for ensuring that our refinery's activities are carried out in accordance with the standards and requirements of occupational health and safety. You will provide technical support and guide our various stakeholders to safely perform their duties.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Act as a field specialist for the various departments in order to advise in the implementation of the refinery's safety program, the Journey to Zero program and the Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS)
  • Enforce the carrying out of safe work practices on-site in compliance with standards on a daily basis
  • Manage the interpretation of the rules and regulations respecting on-site health and safety
  • Participate in activities of a preventive nature, such as job safety analysis, critical task analysis and field audits
  • Support the activities of the Safety department with respect to emergency response
  • Take part in investigations following any incidents, seeking to understand root causes and conducting follow-ups for the effective implementation of recommendations
  • Train and mentor new employees and contractors and ensure the ongoing training of our people
  • Represent refinery when interfacing with government agencies visiting the site
  • Engage in the continuous improvement initiatives of our safety program

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Fluent in French (spoken and written)
  • Five years of work experience directly or indirectly concerning operational safety and prevention in a heavy industry or refinery setting
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
  • Strong computer skills, including the Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • You continually seek greater knowledge about the systems, processes and hazards in the workplace
  • The commitment to anticipate potential problems, develop solutions and establish a consensus among the various stakeholders
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
  • A post-secondary degree in health and safety or in process techniques or the equivalent
  • A deep understanding of the occupational health and safety standards of the CNESST

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work at our Montréal refinery, located at 11701 Sherbrooke Street East
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • You will be asked to work on a rotating schedule, including nights and weekends in the spring and fall
