Job Overview

In this part-time position, reporting to the Terrminal Supervisor you will be responsible for ensuring the terminal is operated in a safe and reliable manner.  If you are you a self-starter who is passionate about safety, building positive relationships, working within a strong team environment, mechanically savvy, and possess strong integrity, then we have the role for you! 

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure the safety of people, equipment, and the environment and that plant policies are adhered to
  • Order and receive barges and handle required documentation including documentation of all maintenance activities
  • Perform product quality testing
  • Inspect terminal operating and safety equipment
  • Responsible for the operation and troubleshooting of the loading racks
  • Maintain loading rack and terminal equipment
  • Be available for emergency response and clean up

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • TDG and WHMIS certification as well as industry Canada-restricted radio operator ticket
  • Level 1 First Aid with CPR and AED accreditation
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid BC driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of petroleum products is preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Work and Outlook
  • A safety-first mindset
  • Demonstrated mechanical/technical aptitude and physical capability to perform heavy manual labor in a variety of weather conditions 
  • You don’t take or tolerate shortcuts and if the procedure is incorrect, you help to fix it
  • You are a self-starter who strives to understand the systems, processes and hazards in and around the workplace
  • You constantly ask what could go wrong and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential problems
  • You possess the physical capabilities to safely perform all essential aspects and responsibilities of the role

Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • This position is located at our Nanaimo terminal
  • This is a part-time position, with up to 40 hours per week
  • The facility operates 24 hours/day, 7 days per week, so you may be scheduled outside of normal working hours as overtime and after-hours call-ins may be required
