Working closely with our Oakville Terminal Supervisor, you will be responsible for safely and reliably operating and maintaining the Oakville distribution terminal including receipt, storage, handling, and loading of refined products via rail, marine, pipeline, and truck in a dynamic 7/24/365 operating environment.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Ensure the safe operation of the terminal: maintain awareness for personal and co-workers’ safety, immediately address and report hazardous situations, and ensure knowledge and compliance with our safety and environmental policies and procedures
  • Manage fuel material by receiving product into tanks via pipeline and marine vessels, transferring product from tank to tank, and draining and preparing equipment for maintenance
  • Conduct sampling and testing of finished products
  • Perform monitoring and inspection of steam boilers including water quality analysis
  • Hook up and offload railcars and complete documentation as required
  • Monitor equipment conditions regularly and address any deviations in a timely manner
  • Maintain and exchange a detailed account of the day’s activities and actions taken to mitigate risks and to ensure optimal shift transitions
  • Support the terminal operation to improve our safety culture and overall safety performance on our journey to zero. In addition,
  • Active participation in emergency response drills and real life situations as required.
  • Maintain competencies by reading and understanding new procedures or relevant changes to the manuals and documentation, and ensure regulatory training and certifications are up to date

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Current enrolment at an accredited post-secondary institution studying Chemical Engineering Technology or Chemical Technology, and returning to full-time studies after the work term
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Training on Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems (WHMIS)
  • Strong computer skills, including the Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • A proven safety and continuous improvement mindset with the ability to actively participate in all safety initiatives

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Oakville office, located at 3275 Rebecca Street
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • This is a 4-month work term, from May 2019 to September 2019
  • You need to possess the physical capabilities to safely perform all essential aspects and responsibilities of the role, and the mechanical aptitude to capably handle the operation of terminal equipment and maintenance in an all-weather outdoor environment while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment
  • This position is safety sensitive
