Job Overview

Reporting to the manager, engineering and automation, you will be responsible for providing technical support to our Burrard distribution terminal operations and maintenance activities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide technical engineering support to terminal operations for equipment and process changes as well as replacement
  • Lead all phases of assigned projects from idea generation to design, execution and commissioning, while finding opportunities to reduce risk and costs and increasing operational reliability, safety and environmental performance
  • Lead and support development and implementation of process safety and operational excellence management systems (OEMS) with a primary focus on risk management
  • Ensure terminal facilities meet all regulatory requirements
  • Monitor and analyze terminal processes and equipment data to anticipate potential problems
  • Provide technical support and expertise to the design and construction of new terminal assets and modifications to existing facilities
  • Identify and recommend capital and expense projects
  • Identify scope, evaluate, recommend and implement opportunities for continual improvement of the safety and reliability of burrard products terminal
  • Troubleshoot terminal operational and reliability issues, and recommend solutions
  • Build strong positive relationships to employ continuous improvement principles to solve broad, complex problems and apply learnings

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Minimum five years of facility engineering experience in a refinery, pipeline or distribution facilities with risk management and process hazard analysis experience
  • Project management experience is a strong asset
  • Professional engineer with eligibility for membership within the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (APEGBC).
  • University degree in mechanical (preferred), chemical engineering or equivalent education will be considered

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong technical skills with working knowledge of industry standards and best practices including API, ASME, CSA, CCME, Work Safe BC, BC Fire Code
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, integrated team environment and build positive relationships
  • Strong trouble-shooting and analytical skills with a continuous improvement mindset
  • You are a highly motivated, self-starter who possesses strong communication skills, and is able to contribute effectively in a team environment
  • You value integrity and hold others accountable and expect others to do the same with proven commitment to environmental health and safety practices, policies and regulations

Working Conditions

  • You thrive in a dynamic environment with multiple priorities, challenging demands, and strict deadlines
  • This role requires you to working in an outdoor industrial plant setting in all seasons; some occasional business travel maybe required
  • You will also be required to provide on-call support
