Senior Health and Safety Advisor

Are you a Health and Safety (H&S) professional looking for a new challenge where you can support in the development, implementation and sustainment of environment, health and safety solutions? We’re looking for someone with a continuous improvement mindset to provide support to our distribution Terminals in British Columbia. You will have the opportunity to look at new ways of improving our business processes while aligning with regulatory requirements, industry standards and best practices.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Work collaboratively with the BC Terminal leaders, to lead and/or support the design, implementation and sustainment of Health and Safety programs, procedures, safe work practices, orientations, and campaigns
  • Perform hazard assessments as well as coach and mentor leaders in this process
  • Monitor compliance to applicable Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations
  • Coach and mentor incident owners/investigators in incident management; perform analysis and identify corrective actions
  • Perform audits and hazard assessments; coach and mentor leaders in these processes which includes SIF control verifications, safety observations, and other inspections
  • Train front-line leaders in areas of core OHS responsibilities and supporting competences
  • Act as a subject matter expert in the EHS aspect of contractor management which includes attending site-based kick-off meetings, field validations of contractor hazard assessments, environmental risks, and verification of plans to ensure controls are in place
  • Interact with OHS regulators at the facilities for expected and unexpected visits

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Experience in health and safety
  • Strong knowledge in developing, implementing and sustaining health and safety programs and initiatives
  • Deep understanding of federal and British Columbia legislation
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
  • The ability to work under stressful emergency situations and work outdoors in all weather conditions and be fit for duty, as required
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • A positive work ethic and you perform well with limited supervision
  • Non-authoritative leadership skills to influence, persuade and facilitate change through building high-trust relationships
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both oral and written, as well as strong analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Strong collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups
  • Alignment with our values: safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity

Preference for:

  • A post-secondary education in H&S or a related discipline
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio and Taproot
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Certification

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Burrard Products terminal office located at 1155 Glenayre Drive, Port Moody, British Columbia
  • Relocation support will be provided
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • Occasional travel to other operational sites in BC will be required
