In this role at our Commerce City refinery, where we produce 100,000 barrels-per-day, you will get to learn the operating responsibilities and layout within a specified unit of our refinery as well as be responsible for maintaining the safe and reliable operation of processes to optimize production in an environmentally responsible manner.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Operate refinery equipment in a safe, efficient manner, according to established refinery practices, procedures and operating guidelines
  • Be an active participant in our Journey to Zero safety initiative
  • Be dedicated to the safety of people, equipment, and the environment and that plant policies are followed
  • Maintain process equipment through application of preventative maintenance and trouble-shooting
  • Oversee the operation and equipment for deviations
  • Monitor and adjust equipment and process variables to maintain safe and environmentally sound operation and ensure product quality
  • Report and appropriately flag all plant-related issues beyond your scope to your leader
  • Perform plant operation duties for smooth and efficient operations and ensure strong communication during shift changes
  • Ensure timely action and process adjustments during plant upsets that are consistent with operational objectives and target outputs
  • Maintain housekeeping in your assigned area at a high level
  • Work collaboratively within diverse groups in a demonstrably efficient and flexible manner

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Strong commitment to working safely and adhering to safe work practices
  • Strong adaptability to change (such as new technologies) and flexible with changing priorities/business needs
  • Collaboration and communication skills allowing you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse skillsets and personalities
  • Alignment with our values: safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity

Preference for:

  • Experience in plant operations; preferably in oil field and platform, gas plant, or waste water
  • A college degree or diploma
  • Mechanical (automotive, electrical, construction, industrial/manufacturing) experience and/or aptitude for hands-on operation of plant equipment
  • A certificate in process technology
  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to make timely decisions associated with process upsets

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Commerce City refinery, located at 5801 Brighton Blvd.
  • The start date of this position is September 7, 2021
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • This is a unionized role and you will be represented by the United Steel Workers Local 12-477
  • This role follows a progression, as per the USW Collective Bargaining Agreement and you will start as an Operator Trainee
  • The refinery is a 24/7 operation; you must be willing and able to work a rotating 12-hour shift, including holidays and weekends (and overtime as needed)
  • There is a probationary period associated with this position
  • You thrive in a dynamic environment and will experience short periods of high stress levels due to the wide variety of issues that may require attention at a time
  • You will be required to adhere to our clean-shaven policy and perform some heavy lifting, use ladders and working at heights such as scaffolds and towers with the ability to perform in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
