Student positions (including co-ops and interns) at Suncor are more than just a work term. As the intern, process automation, you will be an integral part of the team, working with some of the latest control systems in an industrial production environment. You will be given an excellent opportunity to develop process engineering, process control and project management skills.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Assist with process control maintenance including plant testing for development and improvement projects
  • Analyze process control performance and investigate issues
  • Manage and support capital projects and steward continuous improvement in a variety of refinery systems
  • Work closely with other teams in engineering, operations and maintenance
  • Perform mass and energy balances
  • Provide support to problem solving activities using KT
  • Analyze refinery process operations
  • Produce support for updates to the refinery planning tools
  • Create macros and programs to enhance data acquisition and analysis

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Currently enrolled in a 3rd year Chemical Engineering program, and returning to full-time studies after the work term
  • (Attach your transcripts that includes courses completed as of December 31st 2020 with your application and clearly indicate if you are available for a 16 month internship)
  • Alignment with our values: safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity

Preference for:

  • Familiarity with refining processes or continuous manufacturing processes involving pressure, temperature and flow controls
  • Advanced computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word, Excel, Visual Basic
  • You are a motivated, self-starter who can work well both independently and within a team environment
  • You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task effectively
  • Prior industry experience is preferred but not required
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record  

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Sarnia refinery in Ontario, located at 1900 St. Clair Parkway
  • This is a 16-month work term, starting in May 2021
  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
