Instrumentation SCADA Specialist

You will use your expertise to:

  • Show dedication to our Journey to Zero safety culture and programs
  • Support and maintain the Pipeline SCADA, Batch Tracking, PI Historian and Leak Detection systems which provide remote operation of Suncor’s pipelines
  • Initiate and/or conduct complex assignments requiring modification of established guidelines and procedures
  • Build strong positive relationships to lead or work collaboratively in teams to develop plans to achieve long term objectives and / or implementation of our corporate strategies
  • Support all components pertaining to SCADA, including the configuration of Remote Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s)  and data mapping to third party systems
  • Manage day-to-day as well as long term reliability of the SCADA system to ensure high data integrity and uptime
  • Verify and correct SCADA configuration on all new and modified installations during our project commissioning phase
  • Provide recommendations and budgetary numbers for required SCADA system upgrades and expansions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve the reliability of our assets
  • Resolve issues, and/or coordinate appropriate vendors to resolve
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technical team members on SCADA processes and tools

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Seven years of industrial instrumentation work experience as a valid Journeyperson or Technologist specializing in Instrumentation
  • A deep understanding of “C”, SQL and Unix
  • Strong communication skills which allow you to collaborate effectively to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • Been able to thrive in dynamic work environments with multiple priorities, challenging demands, and high pressure
  • A continuous improvement mindset and you are able to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, process and hazards in the workplace
  • A zero-tolerance for shortcuts, and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • A post-secondary education
  • Experience with Cyber-Security and proficiency with Server Virtualization
  • Familiarity with PLC’s including Rockwell and Modicon   
  • Individuals who are eligible to attain your CET, RET, RPT or P. Tech

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Pipeline Office in Sherwood Park, located at 241 Kaska Road
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours and occasional travel based on business needs
  • Able to work with minimal supervision as well as providing on-call support during off hours
  • This position is safety sensitive
