SCADA Specialist

You will be a key member of our Sherwood Park team with a strong focus on ensuring high availability of computerized monitoring and control systems.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Show dedication to our Journey to Zero safety culture and programs
  • Support and maintain the pipeline SCADA, batch tracking, PI-Historian, leak detection and communication systems which, provide remote operation of pipelines
  • Take on increasingly challenging responsibilities in programming and data analysis, software application configuration and project work
  • Initiate and conduct complex assignments requiring modification of established guidelines and procedures
  • Support all components pertaining to SCADA including communications, networking, cyber-security, Pi-Historian and XHQ
  • Manage day-to-day as well as long term reliability of the SCADA system to ensure high data integrity and uptime
  • Verify and correct SCADA configuration on all new and modified installations during our project commissioning phase
  • Provide recommendations and budgetary numbers for required SCADA system upgrades and expansions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve the reliability of our assets
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technical team members on SCADA processes and tools

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Seven years of industrial automation experience as an Engineer, Technician, Technologist, or valid Journeyperson; preferably in the oil and gas industry
  • A strong background in both Windows and Unix operating environments
  • A strong background of LAN and WAN technologies, protocols and configuration
  • Understanding of cybersecurity considerations in process control systems
  • Familiarity with database administration and SQL
  • Familiarity with process historians and data archiving (i.e. PI, IP21, PHD)
  • Familiarity with several programming languages (i.e. C, C++, C#, VBA/VB.Net, Python)
  • Strong communication skills which allow you to collaborate effectively to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, processes, and hazards in the workplace
  • Alignment with our values: safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity

Preference for:

  • Experience with server virtualization
  • Experience supporting DCS or SCADA systems  
  • Experience with process control protocols (i.e. Modbus, OPC-DA, OPC-UA, MQTT)

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Pipeline Office in Sherwood Park, located at 241 Kaska Road
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • This position is security sensitive which requires you to clear a criminal history check
  • This position is safety sensitive
