Job Overview

We will help you to develop your professional skills and establish relationships with internal partners. You will also explore how engineering functions either in our upstream (oil sands and in situ), downstream (refinery) operations, Fort Hills, major projects, or business services operations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Depending on the role, the tasks and responsibilities may include any of the following:
  • Assist in the completion of engineering and material requisition work packages
  • Participate in developing solutions to technical issues
  • Understand our current operations, develop, maintain, and implement a long-term depletion plan and make forecasts, using thermal reservoir simulators
  • Develop and handle tools for tracking process data for analysis and metrics reporting
  • Develop a tool for a daily review of production data
  • Prepare and present summary reports, performance metrics reports, graphical representation and presentations as required

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Currently enrolled in a formal co-op program in 3rd or 4th year Mechanical Engineering at an accredited post-secondary institution, and returning to full-time studies after the work term
  • Attach your transcripts with your application and clearly indicate the length of work term for which you are available
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel
  • Working knowledge of process system software, MATLAB, ASPEN Plus, 2D Drafting using AUTOCAD and HYSYS is an asset
  • Alignment to procedures: you don’t take or tolerate shortcuts and if the procedure is incorrect, you help to fix it
  • Possess a questioning attitude to surface problems: you constantly ask what could go wrong and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential problems

Working Conditions

  • These positions will be based in Calgary, Edmonton, Fort McMurray, or Fort Hills for an 8 or 12-month work term, from January 2019 – December 2019
  • This position is identified as safety sensitive
  • Relocation support will be provided if approved for the position; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible candidates
