Health and Wellness Site Services Team Leader

In this dynamic role, you will remotely lead and support medical personnel directly and indirectly, overseeing a fully functional health surveillance, emergency services and first aid medical program. This temporary role will be operating within and implementing various programs, policies, procedures, departmental programs and/or standards across the Fort Hills and In Situ Health and Wellness Site Services team located in Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Demonstrate active, visible leadership to coach and mentor the Site Services Team and foster engaged, healthy teams
  • Provide governance to team of medical providers (Nurse Practitioners, Occupational Health and Emergency Response Nurses, Primary and Advanced Care Paramedics), along with third party medical providers working in the health centre facilities
  • Be responsible for the planning, implementation, oversight and evaluation of service provision of first aid and emergency response, health surveillance and health promotion programs across Upstream (i.e. Firebag, Mackay River and Fort Hills)
  • Perform audits to ensure that projects are carried out, equipment and material are maintained, and procedures are followed
  • Oversee the provision of services by third party contractors (e.g. Pre-Placement Health Assessments, Audio reviews and Medical Director/Occupational Health Physician)
  • Collaborate and consult with Integrated Disability Management to support disability case management and facilitate return to work programs
  • Ensure privacy and confidentiality policies and processes are followed to maintain confidential medical records
  • Lead and direct the execution of wellness and education/training strategies (e.g. influenza clinics)
  • Oversee contingency and turnaround staffing/planning
  • Liaise and enhance relations with a broad group of stakeholders including regulatory organizations (e.g. local health authorities and medical professional governing bodies)
  • Demonstrate fiscal stewardship

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Registration as a Nurse with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA)
  • Experience as a front line leader or manager
  • Technical knowledge of disability case management, return to work programs, health surveillance, wellness programs, emergency services and first aid, medical principles, concepts, practices, standards, and regulations
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups
  • The ability to anticipate potential problems and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions, as well as having a strong sense of accountability
  • A continuous improvement mindset and are able to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, process and hazards in the workplace

Preference for:

  • Occupational Nurse Certificate and/or registration with Canadian Nurses Association
  • Recent experience in an industrial setting
  • Undergraduate degree, with a preference in Nursing
  • Experience using SAP and Cority or equivalent electronic health record systems

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W., or out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • Travel to sites will be required to Fort Hills, Firebag and Mackay River
  • This is a temporary position ending December 2021
